Saturday 19th March was indeed a special day when District Governor Lion Bagirathan Ummashankar & Spouse Lion Thanuja together with the team consisting of first, second vice district Governors as well as the cabinet officers visited indira cancer trust and donated LKR 1,000,000 to the wig donation program - Sonduru Diriyawanthi. Sonduru Diriyawanthi is a national program launched in October 2021 with the suppprt of lions club Bentota and Galkissa , which are part of the A1 district as well as the Brand Kumarika from Hemas. This program supplies natural hair wigs to patients through the top 10 hospitals that sees the largest number of patients with cancer annually. We have initiated Sri Lanka’s first wig manufacturing at the indira cancer trust premises and by using machines we have managed to reduce the cost of a wig from LKR25,000 to LKR 5,000. this cost is borne by the organisations and the wigs that are given to patients are free of charge. We are indeed so happy about the continuous support extended by the district 306 A1 and partnering for this effort which has managed to bring a smile and a sense of normalcy to a patient with cancer.
